Position Summary

The Strategic Projects Manager (SPM) will focus on developing initiatives/plans that will enable Adirondack Health to identify strategic priorities and growth opportunities, while partnering with executive team members to improve operational and financial performance. The SPM will be responsible for assessing project requirements, writing business plans, and facilitating the successful execution of approved plans.

 In addition to managing assigned projects, the strategic project manager will directly perform the complex planning and research activities required to provide the in-depth analyses required for senior management decision-making and planning. The core focus areas of position involve conducting project management around filing certificate of need (CON), proforma development, overseeing the Community Benefit and Community Service plan,  as well as management of the strategic plan and its supporting metrics. Additional projects may be assigned.

Duties performed involve weighing and evaluating many factors requiring judgment, analytical ability, critical thinking, and problem-solving in dealing with complex data and situations. The SPM will analyze problems and opportunities, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and submit recommendations that support the organizational mission, vision, strategic goals while demonstrating fiscal accountability.

The SPM will work collaboratively with key stakeholders across the organization to identify, research, and implement new business opportunities for Adirondack Health. This individual will be required to engage key stakeholders and work with cross-organizational work teams where diplomacy, sensitivity, conflict resolution and consensus-building skills are critical.

In summary, the Strategic Projects Manager will have the responsibility to deliver creative, high quality analyses, proposed solutions, and process improvement recommendations that are based on common, repeatable work methods, all in support of the strategic priorities of Adirondack Health.


BA/BS in Healthcare or Business related field; PMP certification strongly preferred. Equivalent and relevant experience may be used to offset some educational requirement. Three+ years of progressively responsible experience in physician alignment strategy, health system, is strongly preferred. The physician alignment experience should include working with physician leaders, hospital administrators, medical group governance, and fiscal accountability in progressively responsible managerial and/or consulting positions where collaboration, problem solving, conflict resolution, and cooperative efforts are requisite to developing plans and accomplishing goals.

  • High tolerance for complex, ambiguous, and rapidly changing environments. Individual must be comfortable in an environment with characterized by rapidly changing priorities, inherent complexity, demanding timelines, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Project management – Ability to manage multiple projects, with tight deadlines. Exceptional attention to detail, competence with project management techniques and tools.
  • Ability to analyze problems and opportunities, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and submit recommendations that support the organizational goals. Effectively solves problems that cross organizational boundaries. Competence with mathematical and statistical models and related analytical tools as required.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, as evidence by improved cooperation and collaboration through discussion, sharing information, persuasion, and influence.
  • Strong business/financial acumen; propensity to be data and metrics driven. Analytical with ability to draw conclusions from data.
  • Excellent communication skills, to include outstanding business writing skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to relate at all levels of the organization, including credibility with physicians.
